Secondary Curriculum
At Hollinwood Academy we have devised a secondary curriculum to inspire and engage our young people, carefully differentiated to meet the particular needs of our leaners and remove their barriers to learning.
The National Curriculum forms part of the whole school curriculum and the programmes of study for each subject are followed where they are relevant and accessible, underpinned throughout with Independent Living Skills. Our highly personalised curriculum reflects the varied needs of both individual pupils and groups of learners and the provision is sensitively organised to maximise opportunities, engagement and achievement.
As well as aiming to create confident learners, we also aspire to encourage children’s self-esteem, communication, independence and social skills both through their everyday learning and in focused activities and interventions.
The social, moral and cultural development of every child is deeply embedded in our ethos and can be seen in every aspect of school life. Citizenship is studied during tutorial time and we aim to enable our young people to be aware of the world they live in, communicate their feelings, beliefs and opinions in an appropriate manner and develop life-long strategies to manage their emotions.
Our class groups have been tailored to meet the needs, learning styles and social development of our young people and we continue to be review these on an annual basis to ensure they remain appropriate.
