Welcome back after the short May break and we are in the final half term of this academic year.
Eid al-Adha Mubarak to all of our families and staff that are celebrating today. Eid al-Adha ('Festival of Sacrifice') is one of the most important festivals in the Muslim calendar. The festival remembers the prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son when God ordered him to. Eid usually starts with families going to the Mosque for prayers. They dress in their best clothes and thank Allah for all the blessings they have received. It is a time when they visit family and friends. I hope you have had a wonderful day and I look forward to listening to your stories next week of how you have celebrated.
Let’s see what Miss Boothroyd’s class have been doing ….
"Wow, what an amazing first week back we have had. We had our first class photograph yesterday and the picture truly captures each of the children’s personalities, I am very excited to see it properly. We have had a super week of learning and even had the chance to work with the wonderful Miss Melissa, how lucky are we.
Our topic for this half term is ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ and in English this week we have been looking at the rhyme ‘Under the sea’. The class team and the children have really enjoyed this as there were lots of actions and dancing. We can now near enough recite the full rhyme through the use of symbol and memory.
In Maths we have been focussing on numbers up to 30, with lots of physical activities to support this, we have jumped on a trampoline whilst counting, bounced a ball 30 times and even used numbers as stepping stones – jumping from number to number in order. We have also been counting verbally; we have some fantastic mathematicians within class.
We delved into the natural world for our super learning day, looking at all the benefits we get from nature and how we can look after our environment. For our activity we used twigs and wool to create our very own natural wind chime. We wrapped wool around the twigs and then put them together, our wind chime is hanging proudly within our classroom.
In Design and Technology we have been exploring waterproof items. Using a bowl of water and things from our classroom we dropped them into the water to see if they were waterproof or not. Once we have explored this more our end goal is to create our very own boats.
In Science we have been looking at land and sea. We explored a photograph of a city/town to see what key features we could see, what was the same/different and what we may find in a town/city. We also looked at different animals and where they live, whether that is in the sea or on land. We used the animals and placed them in the correct habitat using a tuff tray full of sand as the land and one full of water to represent the sea.
We are very excited to see what this half term is going to bring and can’t wait to share it with you all."

And now to Miss Chowdhury’s form…
"Year 11 have been continuing their revision for their exams. They are working hard and there has been a lot of positivity in the air.
This week they have sat two maths papers and their second Geography paper. It has been a full-on week, and they deserve a rest this weekend ready to go again next week.
Many of the students have opted to revise in the comfort of their own homes taking advantage of study leave, some are still attending school and utilising their teachers whilst they can.
We are so proud of their efforts so far, well done year 11."
