Holiday Club trip to Alton Towers

Well that was a half term like no other!! I think this has been the toughest half term of my teaching career but seeing the students so settled, happy and working hard after six months off makes it all worthwhile.

At the end of every half term I like to hand deliver my Head Teacher’s awards and present these to each student but unfortunately due to the current situation these have been sent home to Parents via our new Parent App. The following students have been awarded a certificate this half term and I am so proud of them…

I am equally delighted that four of our Year 11 students have achieved a Certificate of Achievement from the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. This is to celebrate their completion of the Volunteering, Physical and Skills sections of their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Well done!!

Keep up the great work next term everyone!!

Let’s see what some of our classes have been doing this week, starting with Miss Collinge’s class…

Wow what an amazing half term we have had! Myself, Nafisa and Courtney have been thrilled to see the children settled, happy and making excellent progress.

We were lucky to attend a Halloween party for our bubble on Thursday. To prepare for our party, we made rice krispie pumpkins..

We carved our own pumpkins..

..and (thanks to Mr Stone) made our own potions..

Our Halloween celebrations have continued in class with lots of messy fun!

We are very lucky to be working with Mrs Woodhead’s class to develop a Forest School area and we have also been busy planting seeds and bulbs ready to create an amazing space.

Mrs Woodhead and I were truly blown away to receive a generous donation from Lenni’s family to spend on our Forest School area. This will go towards plants and resources and will greatly benefit the children – thank you!

We hope that you have a wonderful half term and would like to thank all of our families for their support.

All the pupils in Primary Yellow bubble have been getting really excited about Halloween..

This week the children have been learning about the history of Halloween and the festivals around this festival. The children have then enjoyed using the internet to research craft and cooking ideas and then making Halloween theme goodies and decorations for a little party at the end of the week. This has included using our Maths skills to make some Rice Krispie Pumpkins where we also explored melting and enjoyed the sensory experiences of moulding the Krispies into a pumpkin shape. Some children then used this activity to write instructions using bullet points, bossy verbs and stepped instructions. We have also made Halloween themed decorations which has involved using our cutting and sticking skills while some children have used mathematical skills to plan 3d models and measure out their designs.

They have completed lots of learning and enjoyed every moment working together to get everything ready for our little party.

Miss Fletcher’s class have been busy too…

We have been working from home for the last two weeks and I am very proud of the resilience that my students have shown during this time.

I am particularly proud of Nathian and Alfie from my class; they have both been on Showbie every day without fail and have been completing work within all of their subjects. They have been engaged with the online activities and have shown a fantastic attitude to learning.

I would also like to mention Charlotte, in Miss Meadows’ class, and William, in Mr Stewart’s class, who have been working very hard and have produced some fantastic work too.

I hope all of the students have a wonderful half term and I look forward to returning to the classroom with you all again after the break.

Miss Carpenter has been extremely pleased this week with some of the students who are self-isolating. These students are all at home self-isolating but still engaging in the work which is lovely. Here’s a lovely little video clip from Aqsa who is showing her understanding of why hand washing is important, a topic we’ve been studying this half term..

Also, fruit kebabs and a layered pasta salad to learn the bridge and claw techniques..

Mr Rawson’s class are getting ready for Halloween with some pumpkin carving…

I am sure you will join us in wishing Miss McMurray all the best in her exciting new role, becoming a mum for the first time. I cannot wait to share her baby news once her little one safely arrives. Good luck Miss McMurray!

Can I just thank all of the students, families and staff for your continued support especially during these challenging and difficult times. It is greatly appreciated and I have had some amazing feedback from parents and students regarding their thanks to Hollinwood Academy and the holistic support we provide.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and half term. I am looking forward to spending some quality time with my girls and husband.

Take care and stay safe.
