What a week!! I mentioned in my blog last week that staff have been working hard to make sure that all of our Primary and Secondary 2020 school leavers get the opportunity to celebrate and share so many amazing memories that they have made along the way as they have moved throughout the school. This time of year always brings about tears of joy and happiness (for both students and staff) as the students realise that they are moving on to their next educational journey. The corridors are normally full of laughter and liveliness as the students’ hard work comes to an end and they start to relax and wind down for the well-earned Summer break. Unfortunately, this year has been very different! However, amongst the varying challenges we have all faced over the past months we have watched our students continue to make memories, learn, thrive and most importantly celebrate these successes. We have shared some AMAZING moments and successes this week with some of our 2020 school leavers and I know there is still so much more planned.

Let’s have a look at the wonderful learning that has taken place this week..

COMELO have had a week of emotional goodbyes. We visited two of our leavers who will not be returning to Hollinwood in September. We went to see the lovely Lily first and had a fantastic social distancing party on the street outside of her house. Lily was so happy to see us. All staff signed Lily’s t-shirt and presented her with some leaver’s gifts. We will miss Lily and hope that she is happy at her new school and that she thrives and has lots of fun..

The next party was at Adam’s house. Adam was very shy when we arrived to have his party and was a bit overwhelmed to see all his teachers. Adam soon came around when he saw that we had brought him a party and that cakes were on offer! We will miss Adam so much at Hollinwood, it will be very quiet in class without him, but we wish him all the best at The Learning Centre in September..

Bye, bye Lily and Adam and stay in touch

On Wednesday Miss Rudge surprised two very deserving winners of our ‘Home Learning Creative Arts Award’. There have been so many examples of beautiful creative work being showcased on Showbie, and choosing a winner has been so hard! But Oliver and Ciara have worked extremely hard to produce some wonderful artwork and research. Ciara was out for a walk in Alexandra Park, and Miss Rudge was sneakily waiting near the boating lake to surprise her with a prize. We had a lovely little walk and catch up about all things art…it was really lovely!

Then it was off to Oliver’s house to surprise our other winning Artist with his prize..

Both winners received some yummy treats and some new funky sketching pencils and watercolours to continue the great work! So proud of you both!

Ms Rudge would also like to share some projects. Ruby’s project is about ‘Women in the media’..

..and Ciara is working on a ‘Fantasy art’ project..

SO PROUD of them both for working so hard and remaining so creative throughout lockdown. Ethan has been busy creating a series of ‘Diamond paintings’ which are just beautiful. They require a lot of skill and a great eye for detail, and Ethan has done a grand job! Very proud!

Ms Bones is proud of the maths learning produced by Thomas and Chloe this week. Keep up the good work!

Ms Lomax has sent in a photo of Lucas’ sock puppet – a piece of work we set for art. Family say it was difficult and they will probably be hoovering up rice for weeks! It’s a beautiful piece of work..

Mr Corrigan has sent in a photo of Marco’s volcano..

..along with Tyler and Jake’s art projects. Fabulous!

Alfie in Ms Simms’ class has been very creative this week with all his drawings..

Ms Carpenter is extremely impressed with Ciara’s lemon and courgette cakes..

Finally, Ms Lergio would like to share a competition for over the summer holidays. I am looking forward to seeing all of your wonderful creations in September!

As you know, school will close at the end of the day on Thursday 16th July next week for the Summer period. We will not be offering our holiday club as we need to work extremely hard to make sure the school is ready for the full return of all the students on Monday 7th September. We are working towards all students returning in September as per the latest government guidance. This could change if there is a local lockdown or further outbreaks nationally, but as it stands we are hopeful that all students will be back at school in September. Miss Gordon and myself are working on the finer details as to what school will look like in September and we hope to communicate these to you very soon. These will be sent via ParentPay so please look out for this.

If you are entitled to free school meals, vouchers for over the Summer holidays have been sent to your ParentPay account. If you have not received this over the weekend, please ensure you tell the team during your welfare calls next week.

Have a lovely weekend, take care and stay safe.
