Holiday Club trip to Alton Towers

What would have been our Easter holiday is now coming to an end but unfortunately it was announced yesterday that the lockdown will continue for at least another three weeks, which means Hollinwood Academy will remain closed. The New Bridge Hub remains operational for the students across the Oldham schools within the MAT, with the children coming from families where both parents are key workers. Remember the government guidelines: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus

Stay at home

  • Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home)
  • If you go out, stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people at all times
  • Wash your hands as soon as you get home

Do not meet others, even friends or family. You can spread the virus even if you don’t have symptoms.

Staff have continued to phone families and the feedback from you has been very positive, it is nice to hear that you feel listened to and supported. Any issues that have arisen have been dealt with immediately – as I have mentioned previously, we are all here to help. Details of any resources, courses or information we feel may be beneficial to families have been sent via ParentPay and shared on social media, so please keep checking these regularly.

As many of you have already seen, staff are missing the students greatly so Miss Rudge has brought the staff at Hollinwood Academy together and worked on two collaborative projects to show our pupils and their families that they are in our thoughts at this strange time. If you have not seen these, yet  the links to the two videos to share a little bit of love and joy from us to you are here and here.

Mrs Needham has informed me that Showbie is still very active but most of our students and families have opted out of the academic side over the past two weeks and this is understandable, however, we still have lots of lovely learning from the past two weeks to share with you all..

The Showbie classes over the Easter break have been full of activities to engage the pupils. Pupils have been keen to show staff food that they have created, ranging from mouthwatering savory dishes to some delicious looking sweet treats!

Pupils have continued to enjoy the great outdoors, including some innovative ways to enjoy fun and games whilst in isolation with their families..

“Lenni has been very busy over the Easter holidays, he enjoyed playing outside in his paddling pool and was able to use his iPad to request water to fill it! Wow!’ – Ms Grimsley

I know Mr Heap will be proud at the all the pupils in how they are staying active, whether it’s going on bike rides, trampolining or kicking a football..

The creativeness from our pupils continues to flow, with models from toilet rolls, origami, colouring and drawings using paper and on the iPads. Keep up the amazing work!

Our younger pupils continue to enjoy getting involved with sensory activities..

I wonder how Olivia is getting on with this puzzle!

I hope all the pupils at Hollinwood Academy got a visit from the Easter Bunny – Lenni was lucky enough to meet him..

These Easter Bonnets and crafts look fabulous!

Finally, it’s always lovely to see the homemade rainbows from our pupils in support of the key workers..

Staff will be uploading the next week’s virtual learning onto Showbie, so please encourage your children to access this and complete some of the work set or even engage in conversations with their peers or staff. However, please do not worry if they struggle to engage or complete some of the activities, as their safety and wellbeing are our main priority and routine is key.

My husband is also a key worker but he was off over what was the Easter weekend, so we got the opportunity to create our own rainbow to show our appreciation to the NHS and key workers. Thank you all!

Stay safe, stay inside and take care.
