Welcome to another week’s blog. Everyone at Hollinwood has been hard at work this week and we have also been joined by a group of trainee teachers who have been with the primary classes to see how we work. Mr Corrigan’s class had plenty to show them..
Our focus in Maths this term is multiplication and division. This week we have been looking at multiplication and forming number sentences together using concrete resources. We have then been writing the sentences and finding the answer…
In Literacy this term we have been retelling a wider range of traditional stories. This week we have been looking at the story of ‘Tiddalick the Frog’ through role play, starting with the beginning of the story..
..the middle..
..and the end of the story..
We have used this to help us with our ‘Big Write’ on Friday. In phonics we have been hunting for sounds using our listening skills..
This week Mrs Potts’ class have been looking at the heart, lungs and liver of a sheep in their Science lessons. They all joined together and discussed how the organs work before getting into pairs to dissect a sheep’s heart. They cut it open to see the different sections inside and were also able to identify tendons, arteries and muscle tissue..
On Wednesday, Miss McMurray’s class went on a trip to the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester and had a wonderful time exploring – you can read all about it here..

Well done to all the pupils!
This week we asked Tony, our caretaker, to move a piece of furniture we did not need any more in Reception. Tony dropped it off at the Sunbeams Nursery at the Salvation Army and we have received a lovely email from the nursery’s manager, Janet Lawless..
We are a non profit organisation and therefore cannot afford to buy something like the book truck, so myself, my staff and the children would like to send you a very big thank you, we are all very grateful. We have already put it to good use.
We’re glad our book truck has gone to such a good home!
I hope you have a lovely weekend,
Jaina
