Our Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 pupils have been getting very competitive this week on Timetables Rockstar – ‘The Battle of the Bands’ is ON!! It has been lovely to see the children so enthusiastic about their Maths, they are thoroughly enjoying challenging themselves and competing against each other. I’ve even been asked by pupils if they could get their iPads to go on Timetables Rockstar during their dinner break. Here is how the competition is shaping up so far:

I am very impressed with the scoreboard! Let’s find out what Mrs Potts’ class have been up to this week..

In Geography the class have been looking at the solar system and have created their own solar system from polystyrene balls..

The class have 2 teachers for Science; with Miss Daniels they have been looking at Health and Fitness and this week they had a fitness test while with Mr Fieldhouse they have been looking at reactivity and the periodic table..

In ICT with Mr Ferrand and Miss Dixon the class have been looking at websites and are designing and building their own website. Parents will be delighted to hear that in Living Skills with Mrs Millard the children have been working on knowing their way around the kitchen which has involved making tea and toast..

..identifying utensils….

..and washing up!

The group have been studying the story Blood Brothers in Drama and in PE they have teamed up with Miss McMurray’s class and Miss Nuttall’s class and at the moment they are learning to play basketball..

In Citizenship the class have been looking at the dangers of drugs. In groups they have been researching different drugs and their effects. The class have embraced the Times Table Rockstars Challenge, Battle of the Bands, and currently we are in 2nd place. Keep up the good work!

Miss Shin’s class have been equally busy..

In English we have been writing instructions. We learnt about time connectives and imperative verbs. We know that instructions need to be clear and specific so we wrote instructions for a partner to make a jam sandwich. We also linked our instructions work to our class book, The BFG, and wrote and followed instructions to make Frobscottle – a green drink with bubbles that float down!

As well as this we made dream catchers in Art (inspired by a South American artist) and discussed our dreams..

Our R.E. learning this term is all about Islam. This week we looked at special places that muslims visit. We learnt about the key features of the inside and outside of mosques and recreated these using lego and also paints..

For the end of our place value work in Maths, Miss Shin gave us a new class teddy (Mr Doggo)….but he was locked in a box! We had to solve place value riddles to find the codes to unlock the box. Now we are developing our skills in addition and subtraction, and using practical resources to help us..

In Science we are learning about tooth decay. We have been working scientifically and designing our own experiments to investigate tooth decay. We put eggs (which represented our teeth) in water, orange juice and vinegar to see which liquid caused the most tooth decay..

We found that the vinegar caused the most tooth decay. We also looked at different foods and drinks and predicted which would cause the most tooth decay based on the sugar content..

We are looking forward to next week as we will be celebrating Luca and Alfie’s birthdays!!

This week the Key Stage 2 Nurture Group have been busy getting to grips with Maths Mastery and working with concrete, pictoral and abstract representations of numbers (counting blocks, pictures and numbers)..

The class have also been doing some orienteering in Alexandra Park, using small scale maps to find their way around and discover some of the statues and buildings in the park..
