Stories and information about our School. Click here to view the blog.

Welcome to another blog. I cannot believe we are three weeks into the term already! We have welcomed more children to the school and everyone is settling well into their new classes.

This week is Mrs Lomax and Miss Rudge’s classes turn to share with everyone what they have been up to. We’ll start with Mrs Lomax..

This week we have been continuing our class story of ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’. We have had lots of fun dressing up as the characters and re-telling the story. We have even created a new problem which meant we couldn’t have tea at home – there seemed to be lots of clumsy mummies and daddies dropping the tea on the floor or burning the tea!

We also made our own play dough – our classroom looked like something from Bake Off! We then made bodies and faces with our dough..

While the sun shone we took our phonics outside and did lots of letters and sounds writing in chalk, we even played Sound Corners using our letter sounds..

Let’s now move to Miss Rudge’s Year 7 class. Some of the pupils are new to our school and they are settling in well to life at Hollinwood. The pupils who have been with us in Primary look very grown up in their blazers and ties.

KS3ZRE worked beautifully in Living Skills. We learned how to wash our hands correctly and discussed how to minimise the chance of spreading germs and cross-contamination. We had a go at washing up and the kitchen was very sparkly and clean afterwards. We learned all about knife skills and introduced the ‘claw’ and the ‘bridge’ technique to cut food in the safest way possible. Just look at our fab ‘Fruit Kebabs’!!

Bradley won Mrs Walton’s very special Head Teacher’s Award this week! Bradley has settled in beautifully to Year 7 and we are all so proud of him!

Mrs Walton popped into class on Friday and the children were very pleased to see her, as you can tell! 

Our Key stage 2 Nurture class have been looking into the work of the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser in Art with Miss Rudge as part of our ‘All about Me’ self-portraiture project. Learners have produced some beautiful work in the style of Hundertwasser and Miss Rudge is very excited to display them in our beautiful art room..

Last week I got a letter from Ciara’s Dad asking for an authorised day so that Ciara could take part in a dance competition. Of course I agreed…on the condition that we could share and celebrate this with you all on the blog! Here is what Ciara got up to last weekend when the dance group she is part of took park in MANNECO (Manchester And North East Cheshire Carnival Organisation) UK Championships at Pontins, Southport..

Ciara’s team from ‘Insync Dance Troupe’ (Tinies) moved up to the premiership this season so had a big challenge on their hands. However, they brought home first place in Manecco’s outdoor championships (for performing and competing in the seasons outdoor carnivals), 3rd place in the Premier UK championships and took 1st place in the Manecco Troupe Of The Year 2017. Ciara very much displayed herself as her team nickname implies this weekend, ‘Super Smiler’..

A great haul for her team. We are all very proud of Ciara, her sister Abigail, and the girls of Insync Tinies! A special mention has to go to one of the team’s two trainers, New Bridge’s very own Gemma Carter. A most super lady indeed. It has been wonderful seeing Ciara develop since she started with us in April 2016, she has grown in character and confidence and it is lovely for the staff team to see Ciara excel in events outside school. Well done, Ciara..
