The end of the school year has flown past. I have sat looking through this year’s blog and realised just how much we have managed to fit in, from residential trips, a Nativity performance, educational visits and Sports Day to welcoming so many new pupils through our door.

This final blog of the academic year is to say ‘Thank you!’ to you all. Thank you to our wonderful pupils who make working at Hollinwood Academy so rewarding. Every day brings something new, we learn together and the staff work together as a team to ensure that all our pupils make progress and achieve. I also want to thank all our parents and carers for all your support. You help shape the work we do and our open conversations enable us to keep on improving.

Our last week of term was as busy as ever! On the Monday I had the pleasure of joining Miss Parkinson’s class trip to the Cheshire Ice Cream Farm..

As you know, this was my second visit to the farm after taking Mr Heap and Mr Rawson’s classes earlier in the month but I can assure you that we had just as much fun..

On the last Tuesday of term Mr Valentine, Miss Peak and Mrs Ismail took our Key Stage 4 pupils out for a celebration meal into Manchester and it was lovely to hear that they all had a fantastic time..

Although they may be grown up and mature young people now, I’m pleased to say they still enjoyed making the most of the play area..

The last week of the school year also saw our Sports Days, starting with our primary children on Wednesday morning. All our pupils took part and we didn’t leave the adults out either – we even had a parents race and a staff race (and I’m sure you won’t be surprised to hear that some of the staff were more competitive then our pupils!). Wednesday afternoon and all day Thursday saw the secondary Sports Day, where the pupils at Hollinwood joined in with pupils from across the New Bridge Group and had a wonderful time trying archery, trampolining, cycling, karate, wheelchair tag rugby, javelin throwing and swimming alongside traditional running races.

We ended Friday with a primary celebration assembly. Lots of certificates and awards were given out and as I could not pick from the pupils as they had all been wonderful, I decided that all the primary children deserved my Head Teacher’s Award..

I hope you all have a lovely Summer holiday and I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday 5th September.
