Welcome to the final half term of this academic year. This week I have asked Mrs Lomax, Mrs Potts and Miss Parkinson to tell you what their classes have been up.

Let’s start with Mrs Potts’ class…

In Drama the class have had to pick a hero or heroine then do some research so that they can decorate a t-shirt based on their hero/heroine..

In Living Skills the class have been looking at the different jobs that need doing around the house. Each week somebody does a different job and this week Sameh and Danny had to set and clear the table..

Lewis made the toast and did the washing up..

In Geography the class were recapping what they had been doing last term. This was looking at what equipment you can use in Geography, things like using a compass, atlases and globes..

In Science with Miss Dunkerley this week the class were investigating cloning by picking a leaf and trying to clone it. In Mr Fieldhouse’s lesson they were investigating what gases are in the air. Some students used textbooks and some used the ipad to find the information they needed..

In ICT the class are using Serif Draw Plus to create their own animation..

In Spanish the class have been talking about their hobbies and in PE they have been playing rounders. The class have already watched the film “Our Day Out” by Willy Russell in their English lessons and they are now reading the book/script and each member of the class plays a different character from the story.

In Music the class have been making rhythms using different instruments..

They have also been seeing what sounds they can make by pretending to be an object you would find in the garden shed!

Now let’s see what Mrs Lomax’s class have been busy with..

It’s our first week back and the start of our final term and topic, ‘Come Fly with Me’! We have started the topic by looking at what flies and what does not fly, including looking at the idea of floating and gliding. In soft play we worked as a team to find 30 photographs of different things and as a team we had to sort them into things that fly, cannot fly, things that float or that we kick or throw..

Of course, we needed to test out the ‘kicking’ with a quick game of football..

We have also explored different transport with a focus on flying transport which then led us into exploring how to make different types of paper planes. We created 3 different types each and enjoyed testing which flew the best! We are due to go on a trip to the Manchester Airport viewing park in the next couple of weeks and I’m sure we’ll be able to spot some of the planes that we made out of paper..

Finally let’s see what Miss Parkinson has been up to;

The children have all settled well back into school after the half term. Many of them couldn’t wait to share with us all the exciting things they had been up to! The children have really enjoyed and engaged with our topic of Extreme Earth..

The children really enjoyed learning about and creating models of the layers of the Earth..

Our topic has seen us explore and learn about how volcanoes are made. All the children loved making a volcano and watching it erupt! (due to a slight technical hitch we will add these pictures on Monday). Our topic has also seen us look at tsunamis and the devastating effects that they can have. We made our own mini models of tsunamis on the playground. “Everything has been destroyed!” shouted one of the children..

In Science this week we have been looking at plants and their life cycle. The children enjoyed dissecting a plant to see all of its different parts. We have also looked at all of the different ways of seed dispersal and acted them out. It would be fair to say that the children’s favourite way is ‘bursting out’. We even had a go at planting some flowers too..

Today the reception pupils went off to Manchester Airport to help with the learning of their topic ‘Come Fly with Me’. As you can see from the pictures, they had a fantastic time..

They even managed to find a play area..

..didn’t they, Mrs Dunsdon..

I gave a special Head Teachers Award today in the Key Stage 2 assembly this morning. Daley in our primary Nurture Group has shown he is a great citizen – as a member of the football team he plays for outside of school, he was set a challenge to raise some money for the appeal to support the families of the victims of the Manchester Arena attack. Daley himself raised a total of £120! We are so very proud of Daley..

12 of our Key Stage 3 pupils have been on the residential to Disneyland Paris this week and they have had a fantastic time as you can see from the first pictures sent through in our Facebook album here. I will have to wait to hear all about it from them though, as I will be going with our Year 6 pupils on their residential to Wales on Monday!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Jaina
