Weekly Blog

Stories and information about our School. Click here to view the blog.

Welcome to another blog and what a busy week we have had once again, ending with all the school celebrating a wonderful cause, ‘Children in Need’. This year we asked our children to come dressed in their own clothes in return for a donation – we had lots of Pudsey ears on show!

The week we welcomed colleagues who are aspiring middle leaders from across the country to a SSAT conference, ‘Leading an Outstanding Special School’ which included workshops and learning walks across the Group. The delegates were able to see our young people hard at work and it proved to be a very successful day..

This week I have asked Miss Parkinson and Miss Rudge to share what their classes have been up to. Let’s start with Miss Parkinson..

This week the children have really enjoyed learning about our new topic of the Victorians..

The children experienced what it was like to go to school in Victorian times and there was even a special ‘Victorian teacher’ who came to teach them. The lesson focused on the 3 ‘R’s: Reading, wRiting and aRithmetic. The children were made to stand up when an adult entered the room and recite the strict school rules..

In Art we have been looking at Queen Victoria and the children enjoyed creating her dress made out of scrunched up newspaper..

In Maths we have been looking at data and the children rather enjoyed using smarties to make tally charts..

This week has also been Anti-bullying Week and we have been focusing on what makes a good friend. The children took part in a group discussion about friendships and we have made a little friendship garden in class. The children all wrote down one nice thing about each other on flowers..

Now for Miss Rudge’s class..

We have researched ‘What is Children in Need’ and during assembly today the children delivered some beautiful and well thought-out presentations to their peers..

The children then created some ‘funny faces’ pictures..

Last week saw us remember all those who fought in WW1 and WW2 during Remembrance Day. This week, we have been learning all about famous landmarks and places in Britain during our work on ‘British Values’. This is Ciara’s beautifully presented Citizenship work..
