Welcome to another blog! I have asked a primary class and a secondary class to tell me all about what they have been up to this week, let’s start with Mrs Dunsdon’s Reception class..
Reception have been really busy this week doing lots of great work. Our topic for this half term is ‘Sparkle and Shine’ and the children have been busy making sparkly firework pictures. We love using glitter and now our whole classroom (including the carpet) really does sparkle and shine! The children have explored light sources and have been searching in our soft play area for objects that give us light. They are also having lots of fun in the dark den in class – it’s almost pitch black until the children light it up with the light toys.
On Wednesdays we are really lucky to be joined by Mrs Turner who is excellent at baking. The children made their Christmas cakes this week and did a very good job, Mrs Turner was very impressed..
It will be a few weeks now until the children can decorate them with marzipan and icing – yum yum!!
We are very proud of all the children in our class and how well they have settled back in after the holiday. Well done to you all!
In our secondary department I have asked Miss McMurray’s Key Stage 3 class to tell me what they have been doing this week..
In ICT the pupils have been using their research skills to learn more about Remembrance Day. They have been researching what a cenotaph is, why we wear poppies, Armistice Day and the significance of why we hold a 2 minute silence. Once they had done some research the pupils designed a poster to inform their audience on Remembrance Day..
During drama the class have been using World War 2 as a stimulus to create devised theatre. The pupils have been able to distinguish between both improvised and devised theatre and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the lesson.
Our ‘Stars of the Week’ are…
- Mrs Dunsdon: Brodey for improved effort and attitude to learning
- Mr Corrigan: Charlie for making a special effort in Maths
- Mrs Lomax: Thomas for trying extra hard and doing all his learning activities
- Miss Louden: Alivia for joining in with group work
- Mr Heap: Ellie for completing great measuring work in Maths
- Miss Parkinson: Kia for excellent work in class
- Mrs Halkyard: Chrissy for excellent independent work
This week my Head Teacher’s Awards have gone to…
- Mr Heap’s class – they were superb today during the Key Stage 2 assembly
- Bradley in the Key Stage 2 Nurture Group for working hard with his behaviour
- Alivia for being a wonderful member of our school
- Brodey for making some great choices with his behaviour
Well done to all our ‘Stars’ this week!
We ended this week by observing a two minute silence. I spoke to all the Key Stage 2 children this morning during our assembly; we talked about why we wear poppies and the importance they carry at this time of year. Many of the classes have watched a lovely CBeebies clip which explains what a poppy symbolises – you can see it for yourself here.
Some of our children have been writing poems to commemorate Remembrance Day. Mrs Halkyard’s class wrote this poem together:
Remember the people who have died,
Ending their lives for us,
Making this country free,
Everyone wears a Poppy,
Memories of the war come to life,
But with the end of the War
Everyone stays Peaceful
Remember, remember the 11th of November
Our Key Stage 2 Nurture Group have written some too, I thought I’d leave you with these to read..
I am off now to celebrate my Mum’s 60th birthday, I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
