Welcome to a new half term, it was lovely to see all our children back, happy and ready to have fun and learn.

Our Holiday Club went really well, topped off by a day out to Blackpool Zoo last Friday! Unfortunately we don’t have the photos from the trip to share with you yet but here are a few from the rest of the week..

Many of our classes have started the week looking at Diwali and Halloween. Mrs Lomax’s class have really enjoyed learning about the Diwali story, when I went to see them they were busy sequencing the story together. Mrs Lomax can tell us more..

We have been learning about the Hindu celebration of Diwali. We have read the story of Sita and Rama to understand why we have Diwali. We have learnt that Diwali is also known as the Festival of Lights and it happens every year in October or November.

We have looked at how Diwali is celebrated and we decided to do some Rangoli patterns in our playground. We have found out that Rangoli patterns are brightly coloured. The designs are made on floors outside homes and temples.

Rangoli patterns have different shapes. Some are square and others are round. They are all symmetrical.

The designs can have lines, dots and flowers. The beautiful colours help spread happiness at Diwali.

Candles or ‘diyas’ are sometimes added to the patterns. The light welcomes the goddess Lakshmi into homes.

As you know, Miss Rudge set up an lunchtime Art Club which has proved very popular. Last half term saw the artists experimenting with 3 dimensional effects using various materials – we will have some lovely photos of their work to share with you next week and maybe even a sneak preview of their latest project!

AB4 have been showing off their chopping and peeling skills and trying out lots of different fruits and vegetables..

Miss Rudge’s class have been learning all about laundry in their ‘Home’ lessons with Mrs Crook and she says they’ve ‘been putting Sheldon Cooper to shame with their own home-made laundry folders – they folded clothes worthy of any display in Harvey Nichols!!’ I wonder if they put this into practice at home..

Miss Rudge has been working with Miss Parkinson’s class demonstrating how the children can use their ‘body as a prop’ in drama..

Mr Heap’s class have had a wonderful week completing a range of exciting Halloween and bonfire night activities such as making firework pop cakes, pumpkin carving and playing ‘bonfire bingo’. They have learnt all about the historic events of Guy Fawkes and why we remember the 5th of November!
