Wow, this week has flown by! It has been great to see all our pupils settling into life at Hollinwood Academy, especially the youngest of our children.
The highlight of being the Head of School is that I get to know all the children and spend time finding out what they have been learning. Two of our younger pupils, Bronson and Joshua, visited me this week to show me their wonderful work (although to be honest, I think they preferred having a cuddle with Stuart the Minion who lives in my room).
As promised, I am going to use this blog to share with you all the fantastic work the children and staff do here…
Mrs Dunsdon’s reception class have had a special visitor this week who has been helping them learn how to sew – Mrs Turner (Mrs D’s Mum). The children proved to be quick learners, just look at some of their handiwork..
They have had a really good week getting to know each other and settling into school..
As you can see, they’ve mastered the art of jigsaws..
Miss Parkinson sent me through some fantastic pictures of her class hard at work. They were learning about describing the properties of rock and they worked really well in their groups..
And finally, I popped into see Mr Heap this morning and watched the class working hard together. These pictures show how much progress our children make socially when we get the environment right..
As you know, Hollinwood Academy has grown since we opened a year ago and this has meant we have welcomed new children and new staff. Two of our new secondary staff came to see me this week and I was excited to hear from Miss McMurray her plans to incorporate the Stone Age topic for Miss Parkinson’s class into her ICT lessons. I’m hoping I can get some pictures to share with you next week. Miss Rudge has been working with our reception children right through to our Key Stage 4 children. This week I called into her lesson while they were doing ‘freeze frames’ and I have added a picture for you to see them in action..
It was also absolutely wonderful to see Alex in Year 9 supporting our smallest children with their phonics lesson. He has assured me that he will go and support Mrs Dunsdon and her class every Friday.
And finally, our new AB4 group are settling in well, they have enjoyed accessing the new facilities at Hollinwood Academy and getting to know the building..
Now for our Primary ‘Stars of the Week’…..
Mrs Dunsdon has chosen Joshua for working hard..
Mr Corrigan has chosen Ivy who has settled in well to her new class..
Mrs Lomax has chosen Lucas for working hard on his reading..
Miss Louden has chosen Mariam for listening carefully to instructions.
Miss Parkinson has chosen Connor who was fantastic at joining into PE.
Mr Heap has chosen Finlay for working hard in all of his lessons and settling well into his new class..
Mrs Halkyard has chosen Ethan for working hard and settling into school.
Well done, everyone!!
This week my Head Teacher’s Award goes to:
Connor..
I’m not sure who’s more pleased about that, him or me!
Holiday Club letters have gone home to families today, you can find more details here. Please make sure you get the forms back to us by next Friday 23rd September if your child would like to join us for some half term fun – we have a day out planned to Blackpool Zoo on the last day of the holidays, I think that may be quite popular!
Have a lovely weekend,
Jaina
