Welcome to the Hollinwood Academy blog. Here I hope to be able to keep families and pupils up to date with developments, progress and events at the school. I have also asked the staff team to let me have pictures and reports of successes and positive times in the classrooms.

It has been a pleasure to welcome all our existing and new pupils to the school, looking smart and happy in their new school uniforms. It has been lovely walking around the classes, getting to know all our new pupils and finding out what they got up to in the holidays. Many of us, including myself, are struggling to get my new name right after my summer wedding – I am still calling myself ‘Miss Mistry’ which I no longer am! At the older end of the school our secondary pupils are demonstrating that they can act as great role models for the younger children. They have gone straight into an intensive academic timetable and I have been impressed with the amount of hard work going on in the classrooms.

As some of our parents already know, our primary staff pick a ‘Star of the Week’ and I am delighted to bring you our very first ‘Stars’ this year:

Reception – Mrs Dunsdon and the team thought that all the children have been Stars. It has been wonderful seeing the youngest of our children settling so well into school – well done, guys!

Mr Corrigan has been very impressed with Zachary who has shown fantastic listening skills and has been great at following Mr Corrigan’s instructions. Well done, Zachary!

Mrs Lomax has picked Thomas who has been very brave and joined in with his swimming lesson. Well done, Thomas!

Miss Louden has picked Justin for settling into school well and making a positive start to the year. Well done, Justin!

Miss Parkinson has picked Jacob for making a positive start to the year. Well done, Jacob!

Mr Heap couldn’t choose and has picked Daley and Thomas for settling into school well and Donte, Olivia and Lucas for making a great start. Well done, everyone!

Mrs Halkyard has picked Tobias for making a positive start to the year and Bradley for joining in well in whole class discussions. Well done, both of you!

And finally, the part that I have been looking forward to the most – picking who is going to get my ‘Head Teacher’s Awards’…….it is with great pleasure that I can announce that this week my ‘Head Teacher’s Awards’ go to:

– Daley and Thomas for making a fantastic start and settling into school life.

– Zachary for being a great listener and working hard for Mr Corrigan.

In future I will be choosing a different class to feature each week and sharing the work they have been doing with you, as well as celebrating the successes of the week.

It has been lovely watching the children smiling and running into school this week, even the older students haven’t grumbled too much! I hope you all have a good weekend and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday.
