Welcome to July, although the weather does not seem to have recognised that we’re nearing the end of the summer term and nearly ready for the holidays! I can’t quite believe that we only have two more weeks until the end of term – where has this year gone?!

This week my class focus for my blog is Miss Parkinson’s group. Here is a report from Miss Parkinson on what they have been up to this week:

“Our topic is chocolate this term! We have been focusing on ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ in English and we have designed our very own chocolate factories and then made them out of junk modelling..

The children were all lucky enough to find golden tickets just like Charlie..

We have been looking at designing our very own chocolate bars but first we had to research our favourites… from looking at the wrappers to tasting them! The children especially enjoyed this..

We have also looked into adverts too and some of the slogans that chocolate bars have to help you remember them… I would say the children’s favourite is definitely ‘You get in the bowl!’ from the M&M adverts!

The children were lucky enough to go and watch the performance of Shrek this week over at New Bridge..

The children loved it and commented how great it was – lots of them were up dancing..

I have also included some pictures from music with children practising playing the ukulele..

Jacob in Year 2 – I have been extremely impressed with Jacob’s progress and was delighted to see that he had been nominated for the Star of the Week Award. Jacob has worked hard to achieve this recognition and I am very proud to hear that he is trying hard with his learning and consistently following instructions. Well done, Jacob!

Ethan in Reception – I have been hearing a lot from Ethan, which is amazing as he is really finding his voice. He has been talking a lot and has also been making great progress in literacy, particularly with his handwriting. Well done, Ethan!

Hollinwood Academy pupils were invited across to New Bridge School on Thursday to watch the performance of Shrek. It was fabulous and our children from Reception age to Year 11 all thoroughly enjoyed the show. The highlight of my morning was watching Bronson boogying along to all of the tunes – he needs to be on the stage next time!

This week has also seen a number of interviews as part of our recruitment drive as the school continues to grow. All of our apprentice teaching assistants have applied for teaching assistant roles. We haven’t heard back from the interview panel yet but wish them all the very best of luck. We also interviewed for a Key Stage 2 Lead to replace the position left after Miss Mistry’s promotion to Head of School, and I am delighted to inform you that Mrs Halkyard has been successful in gaining this position. We are also in the process of recruiting Pastoral Managers to the school and I will be able to update you on this shortly.

Our transition visits have been very successful so far and it has been lovely to meet so many of our new pupils.

Letters have gone home to families today explaining that we have been notified that the National Union of Teachers (NUT) propose to take industrial action next Tuesday 5th July 2016. We will be able to keep the majority of the school open as normal but unfortunately two of our classes, KS2RS and KS2PN are affected and parents of the children in those classes will need to make alternative arrangements on the day. Please could I remind parents of children who are not affected that After School Club had already been cancelled on Tuesday 5th as there is a ‘twilight’ staff training session taking place that evening.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend after yet another very busy week,

Sarah
