This week’s blog has a distinctly autumnal feel with a visit to Year 5/6, Mrs Halkyard’s class, who have been out and about exploring nature at this time of year. They have used the changing colours and shapes of Autumn as a basis for their art work…

…employing different print techniques to create autumnal effects. They have also attempted some planting of seeds, although I think they’ve had to cheat a little – ‘hothousing’ their seedlings on a radiator to promote some growth as the weather turns colder…B planting seeds 1 B planting seeds 2

They have also been outdoors collecting resources to support their history topic, the Anglo Saxons. They collected natural raw materials to re-create building an Anglo Saxon house using leaves, branches, earth and grass…

I think they decided they’d rather live in more modern versions with central heating and double glazing though.

Miss Holland has sent me some pictures of the class swimming lessons. I understand that they are all making tremendous progress… d_ollie_swimming d_chrissy_swimming d_charlie_swimming…many now swimming without any aids and perfecting their strokes.

The week has ended with some Hallowe’en celebrations. Mrs Halkyard’s class baked some delicious looking ‘pumpkin buns’…

Her favourite photo is the one of the boys washing up – or rather Raihan washing up whilst the others look on!  (you can view all the photos on our Facebook page here)

The class have invited Miss Parkinson’s class over this afternoon for a party to taste the cakes, bob for apples and look forward to a week off for half term.

I will leave you with a couple of photos of our Key Stage 1 ‘Stars of the Week’

Well done boys!

When we return after half term I will be spending time in the Reception class with Mrs Dunsdon, gathering pictures to fill my next blog.

I hope you all like the school photographs which should be coming home with your children today. We didn’t manage to get class photographs today as the photographer didn’t have the right zoom lens so we are going to invite her back again towards the end of the year to get some group pictures.

I hope you all have a great half term, and those children who are coming to holiday club enjoy their week.
