The weeks are flying by already and the pupils at Hollinwood Academy are settling well and working hard. I am pleased to say that we now have a functioning dining room and that the soft play and sports hall are due to be completed and handed over next week.
Letters have gone out about after school activities which include board games, computer club, homework club, soft play sessions, swimming and sports. If you haven’t already signed up for clubs please let us know which ones your child would like to attend, and if there are any activities your child would like which aren’t currently available, again, please let us know and we’ll see what we can do. Lunchtime clubs are also starting next week and include chess, drama, art, cricket, computer club and soft play. The chess club is particularly exciting as we hope to join the Oldham league and compete against other schools.

I asked staff to let me have some photos of pupils hard at work to give you a flavour of what goes on in classrooms and this week’s stars are from Mrs Halkyard’s class. (One thing I forgot to announce last week was our first Hollinwood Academy wedding – so Miss Reynolds is now happily Mrs Halkyard!) The class were participating in a drama lesson. They were given social situations that they had to act out for other groups to guess what was happening. They also did freeze frames that the other group had to guess. You can see the lovely interactions between the pupils and the positive involvement and inclusive work in the pictures above.
I’d also like to share some wonderful homework. As you can see, homework isn’t just for the older pupils. The Year 2 pupils were asked to complete some ‘talking homework’ about their favourite fairy tales. Vincent took this to another level with his wonderful play-doh models of the Three Little Pigs. Mrs Lomax was very impressed and asked him to present it to his classmates as part of Friday’s good work assembly. You can see how proud he looks, and quite rightly so!
And believe it or not, we’re already thinking about the pupils who will be looking at entering our school in September 2016. We have two open events this month:
- Wednesday 23rd September 1.30pm – 3.00pm
- Wednesday 30th September 4.00pm – 7.30pm
We will be showing prospective pupils and parents around the school and showcasing what we have already achieved.
I’ve spoken to lots of parents this week and am very pleased with all of your positive comments. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have anything you wish to discuss.
Our Principal, Graham Quinn, also has his own blog and you can now keep up with all the developments throughout the New Bridge Group in his Principal’s blog.
Have a lovely weekend, I’m away camping so hope the sun continues to shine!
